Beryl undertook the Body-for-LIFE Challenge in a bid to rid herself of some hard-to-shift body fat that had crept on around her middle over the years.
It was a brave move as Beryl had only been in a gym a few times before - about four years ago to support her daughter who wanted to lose weight after having her second baby. Beryl swam occasionally but that was about it. So from that to working out six times a week was a challenge in itself!
Her husband, Philip, was an enormous help and even followed the Challenge alongside Beryl. This made it easier to follow the nutrition plan, to say nothing of the encouragement of him accompanying her to the gym.
"Having Philip do the challenge alongside me was very supportive. If one of us was feeling that they didn't want to go one day, the other one would chivvy them on and off we'd go," says Beryl.
Over the 12 weeks, Beryl lost 1.5 inches from her waist, 2.5 inches from around her tummy and 1 inch around each thigh. She used her favourite black dress as a measure: after six weeks she could do the zip up and after 12 weeks it slipped on beautifully.
Delighted with her award Beryl says: "Completing the Body-for-LIFE 12 week challenge has given me more confidence and I feel much
