Ian Doherty

2005 Men's Champion
2005 Men's 18 - 30 Category Winner

26-year-old Ian Doherty from Derry is the 2005 EAS Body-for-LIFE Men's Champion and 18-30 age category winner. Ian, a student, enjoyed a pint or two and was living the party lifestyle, until he decided to clean up his health and get fit by entering the EAS Body-for-LIFE Challenge.

In the process, Ian lost eight pounds of body fat, gained muscle and reduced his overall body fat from 24% to an amazingly-lean 7%. Ian says: 'I wanted to get out of a rut and change the habit of drinking and start training properly with a good schedule. I had heard about the programme and met a former American winner on holiday in the US last year. He told me all about the Challenge. I wanted to really commit myself to see what changes I could make.'

Ian had done some gym workouts before but felt that his technique was wrong and he was 'going through the motions'. The Challenge gave him a new focus and inspired him to change his lifestyle and improve his eating habits. Ian, also a keen footballer noticed a change in his energy levels thanks to the EAS healthy eating plan. 'About three weeks into the programme I noticed an improvement in my energy levels during football training,' says Ian. 'It's hard to believe that you are changing at first but four weeks into the Challenge I was well on my way.'

Ian was determined to complete the Challenge, despite long hours at work. 'I worked shifts and was doing night work, so I'd have to train before and after my shifts. I have a real sense of achievement and I'm more confident about the gym and what I'm doing. I'm excited about sharing what I've learned with hundreds of people and I've learned that having belief that things will work and realising that doubts that creep into your head are just doubts, not things that can stop you.'
