What were your
reasons for deciding to accept
the Body-for-LIFE Challenge?
In my transformation, it was about consciously choosing my own course. Typically, the men in my family start "falling apart" after the age of 50. Being out of shape has been where it starts. My father was 6' tall and 315 lbs when he died at age 66. At 50, I was following that same path, pushing 250 lbs. I saw my future if I kept going the way I was heading; declining health leading to early death. I decided to break this family pattern.
What inspired
you to stay on course throughout the 12-week Challenge?
I focused relentlessly on my main goal to become the first middle-aged male in my family to be in shape and healthy and on the goals for each week - to strengthen muscle groups and trim down. My wife Victoria's desire is that we be healthy together, so she was thrilled with my progress. Weekly Body-for-LIFE emails, and the new respect I was getting from friends & co-workers, also fueled my determination. Finally, seeing for myself the way my transformation was working fed the inspiration to continue.
What obstacles
did you have to overcome – what adversity did you transform
into positive energy – in order to complete the 12-week
Challenge?
I had a lifelong habit of not finishing what I started. Halfway through the 12-weeks, that habit kicked in. I told myself, "It doesn't matter if I eat more than I should, or if I skip cardio today." But I fought off my excuses like a man wrestling with a bear. I wrote down my goals and taped them to my bathroom mirror; posted a graph of my progress on the refrigerator. When the excuses rose up, I was stronger than they were.
Please describe your physical improvements in terms of how
you measured them.
In 12-weeks, I lost 34 lbs of body-fat and gained 18 lbs of lean mass. My beginning body composition measurement was 237 lbs at 25.3% body-fat. My final measurement was 221 lbs at 11.8% body-fat. I also dropped 4" from my pant size, and my resting heart rate went from 82 BPM to 67 BPM. I could breathe easier and even think better!
Which
EAS supplements did you use, and how much did they help you?
Would you recommend those supplements to others to help them
achieve the results you have?
The EAS Whey Protein helped a lot with the protein requirements of my nutrition plan. When sticking to my meal schedule seemed impossible, EAS Carb Control bars came to the rescue. I would definitely recommend EAS products to others.
How was
your life transformed by improving your physical condition –
by deciding to accept the Challenge and sticking with it from
start to finish?
I know I can finish what I start. I have a new perspective on my fears and limitations. In the past, the word "old" meant breaking down and conking out. Now I'm looking forward to a truly "Golden" stage of life, a time of health and energy. I'm finding new challenges and ways to expand myself. By accepting the Challenge and sticking with it, I have been transformed beyond even my own dreams.
